As times go by, the emptiness of modern people began their spiritual sustenance in pets. Thus, people and pets start to derive some emotional attachment link, pets in people's lives has increasingly important position occupied. However, even if owners are willing to input emotionally in pets, but it can not be guaranteed that the pet owners would not abandon the pets. Whenever the pets were suffering from a serious illness, pet owners interested in breeding vanished, and there is no convenient space or other issues emerge, there might be derived the abandonment problem.
The recent re-emergence of rabies epidemics, causing people's inexplicable fear and uncertainty, and even there is an emotional dependency link between pets and the owners, there are still many innocent pet dogs have been abandoned for no reason, and the main reason behind this abandon trend remained baffling. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to explore the relationship between the owners emotional attachment and the intention of abandonment. There are two main research propositions: (1) Will pets owners emotional attachment will positively influence the intention of abandonment? (2) Will rabies risk perceptions will positively affect the intention of abandonment? (3) Will rabies risk perception will become a mediator in between of the emotional attachment and the intention of abandonment?
This study used questionnaire survey to collect samples, further analyze the samples for reliability and validity, item analysis, descriptive statistical analysis, factor analysis and detection of independent samples T-test. The study found that, when the more motions of pet dog owners arising deeper from inside of their heart, the fewer abandonment relatively caused by "family economic factors" and "environmental change factors", and the deeper the "familiar emotional intimacy". Meanwhile, pet behavioral factors on the dimensions of family economic factors achieve a high degree of correlation significant, indicating that the lower abandonment problem when the arising "pet behavioral factors" between owners and pets, then the lower abandonment relatively caused by "family economic factors". Finally, some managerial implications with regard to pets dog abandonment are drawn based on the research findings, and suggestions for future researchers are presented.
